RHE at St Aidan's CE Primary

At St Aidan's our RHE curriculum is covered using four main resources

• Natterhub - Online Safety

• Kidsafe UK - We are a registered school for this program and all sessions are delivered by Kidsafe approved trainer and RHE Lead, Mrs Benetatos.

• Picture News - We are now a Partner School for Picture News - this covers British Values, Protected Characteristics and UN Rights of the Child. These sessions are held weekly throughout school.

• HeartSmart is a church linked RHE package, focussing on thoughts of self and others and intrinsically linked to our Christian School Values.

Teaching of the protected characteristics, British Values and UN Rights of the Child.

It is important that all children gain an understanding of the world they are growing up in, and learn how to live alongside, and show respect for, a diverse range of people. 

The Equality Act 2010, identifies the ‘protected characteristics’ as:

age

disability

gender reassignment

pregnancy and maternity

race

religion or belief

sex

sexual orientation

At St Aidan's, we pride ourselves on having a well-considered approach to the teaching of the protected characteristics, in order to:

-eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation

-advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it

-foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it

This philosophy is an integral part of school life and is embedded into our curriculum through RE lessons, Kidsafe sessions and Picture News Class assemblies. Our Picture News coverage is available to view below.

These documents also show how the British Values of Democracy, Mutual Respect and Tolerance, Individual LIberty and Rule of Law are covered in school. They also include our coverage of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. 

In addition to this planned approach, we react and respond to any incident as it arises within school, the community or is in the news.
